This past year upended our lives. As disruptive as it has been, it has inspired many of us to think more carefully not only about what is important to us and what we truly need, but also about where we spend our money. As we move out of the holding pattern we’ve been living in and begin to venture out to eat and shop, we have a unique opportunity to use our purchasing power to build back fairer. No more business as usual!
Think about how good it feels when you have an authentic, personal transaction: grabbing coffee at a locally-owned coffee shop, buying produce from your local farmers market, or shopping for gifts made by artisan partners who were paid fairly at Chicago Fair Trade’s holiday pop-up shop. Imagine having that feeling day in and day out when you spend money!
Chicago Fair Trade wants to make that dream come true, and we are well positioned to do so: Did you know Chicago has the highest concentration of fair trade businesses in the country? Plus, Chicago is the birthplace of the labor movement and the eight hour work day. Now, with your help, we have an opportunity to take it to the next level and Build Back Fairer.
Join us in our World Fair Trade Day 2021 Challenge and help us continue to build
the world we want to live in. The challenge is designed to draw you into our mission of “cultivat[ing] a community dedicated to an economy that values the labor dignity of all people.”
How it Works
On Saturday, April 17, register to join with hundreds of Chicagoans by taking our three-part challenge:
Complete the challenge by taking at least one action in each area over three weeks. Fair Trade works both ways: we want to hear from you! Share your favorite resources – fair trade products, businesses and activists, articles, you name it; we want to know – and nominate local entities for a Build Back Fairer Award. Join us for our Build Back Fairer Awards ceremony broadcast live on Friday, May 7th at 6:00.
Through this challenge we will raise our collective voice, bringing us closer to our vision of living in a metropolitan area of conscious consumers living in a place with easy access to purchasing ethically-sourced products.
