Knit and Sip Night

Beginners and experts alike are invited to this friendly knitting circle at the Chicago Fair Trade Museum to knit a square following the instructions of women knitters from fair trade cooperative Himalayan Naari in Chakouri, India, with guidance from expert knitter and teacher Kristine Brandel. At the end of the project, all participants’ squares will be knitted together into a solidarity blanket and will be displayed in the museum. All equipment, including knitting needles and fair trade wool, will be provided – as well as beverages and snacks!

About the Chicago-Chakouri Knitting Project

Chicago Fair Trade is excited to announce this project in collaboration with fellow Chicagoland non-profit India Development Services: the Chicago-Chakouri Knitting Project. Generously funded by the Simmons Center for Global Chicago, the project is a cross-cultural exchange between Chicagoans and the women knitters of Chakouri in India, shining a light on the value of women’s work and traditional handcrafting skills.

From Chicago to Chakouri, let’s get knitting in solidarity with women!

The event is finished.
