Call-in day of action: Call Senator Duckworth! #PassFABRICAct!

We as ethical consumers have a big opportunity that does not come along often. The Fashioning Accountability and Building Real Institutional Change (FABRIC Act / S.4312) would protect nearly 100,000 American garment workers and revitalize the garment industry in the United States by improving working conditions, reforming the piece-rate pay scale and investing in domestic apparel production. Learn more about the Fabric Act here.

On Thursday, August 25, CFT asks that you please call Senator Duckworth and encourage her to co-sponsor the FABRIC Act.

Please call Senator Tammy Duckworth on Thursday, August 25 between 8am and 3pm at  (202) 224-2854  and urge her to co-sponsor the FABRIC Act! You may use the following suggested script when calling:

“Hello. My name is [Name]. I live in [City, State] and my zip code is [Zip Code]. I am a constituent, and I am calling on Senator Duckworth to support and co-sponsor The FABRIC Act,  S4213.

America’s 95,000 garment workers often face wage theft and our apparel manufacturers face unfair competition. The FABRIC Act will level the playing field for responsible business, ensure that garment workers are paid fair wages, and promote much needed job growth.

By supporting the FABRIC Act, we can accelerate domestic manufacturing and cement the US as the global leader in transparent and equitable clothing production. Thank you for your time.”

A little background: Illinois now has the most FABRIC Act endorsers outside of NY and CA. The outpouring of support from Chicago Fair Trade business members led to Senator Duckworth’s staff requesting a  meeting with Chicago Fair Trade last week. During a productive meeting, her staff shared that when they first heard about the bill from Senator Gillibrand’s office, they didn’t see much support in Illinois, but now that more and more stakeholders are supporting the act, she is now on the brink of co-sponsorship.

Let’s keep the momentum going. Please call Senator Duckworth and let her know that we, her constituents, support this bill! Every call really does make a difference!
