Call-in day of action: Call Senator Duckworth! #PassFABRICAct!
We as ethical consumers have a big opportunity that does not come along often. The Fashioning Accountability and Building Real Institutional Change (FABRIC Act / S.4312) would protect nearly 100,000 American garment workers and revitalize the garment industry in the United States by improving working conditions, reforming the piece-rate pay scale and investing in domestic apparel production. A little background: Illinois now has the most FABRIC Act endorsers outside of NY and CA. The outpouring of support from Chicago Fair Trade business members led to Senator Duckworth’s staff requesting a meeting with Chicago Fair Trade last week. During a productive meeting, her staff shared that when they first heard about the bill from Senator Gillibrand’s office, they didn’t see much support in Illinois, but now that more and more stakeholders are supporting the act, she is now on the brink of co-sponsorship.
Let’s keep the momentum going. Please call Senator Duckworth and let her know that we, her constituents, support this bill! Every call really does make a difference!
