Meeting with your Alderman

Pick up some information at the CFT office and make an appointment with your alderman or one of his/her aids. Here are some talking points:

Explain:
  • You are working with Chicago Fair Trade and a little about the organization.
  • "What is Fair Trade"   They can learn more from the DVD available from CFT office.
  • Why YOU are involved and any fair trade businesses or organizations in their ward.
  • Fair Trade Towns background and the beginning Fair Trade Towns movement in the U.S. (visit www.fairtradetownsusa.org)
  • Goals for Chicago to Become a Fair Trade City
  • Refer to draft of the resolution in the packet.
We want:
  • Their review of the resolution and support for its passage being introduced in September to the Energy and Environmental Committee.
  • Their personal support of fair trade, for example, would they start using Fair Trade coffee and tea at their ward office? (we can give them suppliers)
Discuss other possible support in the ward:
  • Fair trade info at neighborhood events?
  • Literature about Fair Trade in their office?
  • Info in ward newsletter or website?
  • Your ideas!
